Starter/generator

Maybe, you need to get one with the correct rotation for the 154. Starter/generators have a left hand and a right hand rotation.

The 154 uses a clockwise starter/generator. Cub Cadets of the same era used counterclockwise starter/generators.

If you still have the 154's original S/G, they are not difficult or expensive to rebuild. Usually $15- or $20- in parts. Auto parts stores usually carry the brushes, bearing and bushing.

If you don't want to do it yourself, a repair shop will be less expensive than to purchase another one.

Yes I took it apart, I think it just needs brushes and cleaned up.
It never did charge, probably regulator. But that’s ok, I just put the battery charger on it

The 15 amp regulators used on IH products are difficult to find. You can use the 16 amp regulator for GM products.

If you have a usable regulator from a Cub Cadet, you can use it.
