Squeaky Brakes......problem solved???

A few years ago, I replaced the brake bands on my 48 Cub and adjusted them according to the manual. Since then, the right brake has been quite squeaky, while the left one makes no noise. They both work as good as Cub brakes can. Today I finally cleaned the right brake drum with carburetor cleaner and presto noise disappeared. I read that this can work but am a little skeptical about it in the long term. Will let you know if the squeak is back the next time I use it.

So, I drove the Cub today and the brake noise is still there. I have tried the reverse/drag procedure in the past as well as yesterday without any noticeable improvement. I cleaned the drum again today and the noise disappears, so I am thinking it must be related to some uneven surfaces that when lubricated with the carb cleaner quiet down. The noise is more of a growl than a squeak. I'm thinking it could be one or more of the rivets. In any event, it would require removing the final, which at this point is a bigger issue than the noise, so I will live with that.
