I know there are good snakes, i.e. black snakes, king snakes, that can take care of other pests, like mice and other snakes, but I guess in my mind, the only good snake is a dead one. That said, it a black snakes takes cares of the mice population, I might be less tolerant of them. :)

Get an occasional black snake in the shop. I just leave them alone. They will go away in a day or two.

I put rat and mouse bait out in the acreage buildings every fall to reduce the number of nests in tool box drawers and in machines.

Got this bad boy awhile back. Cottonmouth. No backup in these ole boys. I got bit by a copperhead back when I was six. Waged war on all snakes for years after that. I've mellowed since then and let the nonpoisonous ones go.

T - mays , you got that right . cottonmouths do not have a reverse gear , they are aggressive . I've had my share of encounters . when the kids were still here , i dispatched a record breaking copperhead , drought brought him to a leaking faucet one too many times . coppersmythe..............................

I kill every copperhead I see, dont need pets or livestock being bitten, but the black snakes eat copperheads so I love them! I enjoy snakes as long as they are not poisonous. we have found a few beautiful rat snakes here

I hate snakes. When logging firewood with 15k loaded in the truck I would catch snakes in the road sunning themselves. If I ran them over they lived. If I locked up the dual wheels over them their road pizza and crow food.

I went deer hunting several years ago the week after Christmas in pinehurst, NC with a friend. The temperature got up to 70 degrees for 2 days and I was driving one afternoon to pick up a guy and this rattler was laying in the road getting sun. He was about 8” longer than what you see here. I blew that much off with 3 1/2” buckshot from 8’ away. The guy I went to pick up walked up and took a stick and laid it in the back of the truck. The next day I ask a guy if he would cut the rattler off so I could have it. He said get the whole snake and I’ll skin it for you. 26 hours after killing it I put a glove on and picked it up by the tail, it curled up, I dropped it and took off running. I can’t stand snakes. He and another guy were holding each end of the snake while he cut it and it was just a squirming. It had 11 rattles on it at the time. 2 have fallen off over the years from people touching it.

Oh the joys of living in Michigan. I haven't seen any snakes other than small garters in about 25 years. I grew up next to a wetland and I'd find blue racers in the yard once in a while. Michigan has about 17 species of snakes, but I have never seen any but the two mentioned in the wild.
