SMV original bracket

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I couldnt find any pictures or posts of an original SMV bracket mounted. Does nayone know where the original bracket was intended to be mounted?

I honestly forgot I had posted that, but I am going to make the bracket (close as I can), but cannot figure out where it was to mount. I have called a couple local CASEIH dealers - no luck.

To put this in perspective. "Anywhere you want to." Now for the details. The Cub was introduced in 1947 and the SMV sign was introduced in 1962, fifteen years after the Cub. So, for most all intents and purposes. there is no "original" location for the SMV sign on a Cub. Actually state/federal law prescribes where a SMV sign is to be located on slow moving vehicles and it was up to farmers to figure out how to get it placed to comply with the law.

There may not have been an "original' location, but IH offered a sign and bracket in their later Cub parts manual. Since that mounting bracket has factory pre-punched holes it would seem IH had an idea where to mount it on a Cub.

well said Barnyard - that is what I guess I'm asking where did IH intend for it to be placed since it has two (2) punched holes and it has somewhat of a bend in it.

I have never seen one of those brackets first-hand. I have seen pictures only in one brochure, which is on TM's site on the brochure page as "International CUB Tractor". Here is the page with the best picture of it. You can't see the end of the bracket attached to the tractor as it is hidden by the rear light. The position (and the hardware callouts) suggest it bolting to the battery box at the light bracket. However, the bends in the drawing of the bracket don't end up in the right position. A piece of the story is still missing. Since it is shown with a deluxe seat, it kind of wipes out the idea of attaching it to the standard seat post.

Thanks Jim, that gets us closer than we were. I enlarged the SMV part of that brochure to give a better idea but it doesn't help much. At least now if someone wanted to make an original they have something to go by.

Here is what the bracket looks like.

With the shape of the bracket, and it's location in the picture, it looks as if it mounts to the bracket that the rear light mounts to.

Yeah, but the part with the mounting holes (right hand end of the bar in the pic above) on the drawing would have to be bent at 90* from what it appears to show in the picture.

I have one for the early seat post style, I will try to take pictures of it tomorrow for you, just got in the door as I have been baling hay today, it bolted to the 2 holes on the back of the left fender on two studs

Jim is right, there is no such clip shown. So the original question remains:

Does nayone know where the original bracket was intended to be mounted?

Here's an option that a PO of my '64 installed. That's a U-Bolt going through the decking and around the axle.

Whether you use the original bracket or make your own, having an SMV on the tractor is the most important part.

The CUB is probably the slowest "big" tractor on the road.
