Shower Caulk that doesn’t mildew

I have a shower with a fiberglass base. Walls that I tiled. I have rusty well water with a whole house sediment filter and softener. Sealed grout and tile have held up well. My problem is that the caulk between the wall tile and the base has eroded and turned mostly black with mildew in a few months. I wipe down the walls after the last shower of the day 90% of the time but that caulked seam at the bottom is gonna stay wet for awhile.

I don’t even remember the brand of caulk I used but it was one that is color matched to the grout. At this point, a white colored caulk to match the fiberglass base would be fine. I’ll have to let it dry out and clean out the old caulk so I’m hoping to do it once, at least for a couple years or more hopefully.

I saw a product in ACE Hardware the other day (can’t recall the brand) that claimed to never mildew. I realize I can search for reviews online but figured perhaps someone on this forum has some actual experience with a caulk that holds up in this kind of wet environment and doesn’t mildew. I would trust some real world experience here over online reviews.

Thanks

Try spraying undiluted white vinegar on the mold. Wait 20 or 30 minutes then wash off. Try several time to see if it works on your mold.

Thanks, but unfortunately mine is way past the point of cleaning it. In many places it has pulled away from the tile. It is also sealed travertine tile which I wouldn’t want to get vinegar on. But, I’m a big fan of vinegar in general. Haven’t bought it in years but there are or were several shower sprays you spray on after a shower to keep it clean. We decided to use diluted vinegar and save some money. After awhile I noticed the metal trim around the shower handle was pitted. I should have realized the vinegar would eat it away.
