Shave the head. Yes or no

Depends on how it looks and if it's flat. If it doesn't need it then no but if it needs it then yes. You can have the shop doing the bore have a look at it and they can tell you if it needs it.

Mine has been shaved a couple times and when it was rebuilt i used the hi compression pistons. It did make a difference with the hi comp pistons.

If it needs it is important to do to get a good seal. Any performance gain will be more from the better seal than upping the compression. My 49 needed 0.015 off to get it flat according to the machine shop. There was evidence of leaking when I pulled the head. The engine was stonger after that and a valve job.

Do not shave the head unless it is needed. The valves need a place to go when the3y raise, and while it will take a lot of shaving to keep them from having enough room, you also have to allow for carbon build up, which will happen if you use your cub much. The same goes for decking the block.

Yep those are some nice pistons. Thought about that in mine. The equivalent to fire crater pistons in bigger tractors.

I'll take the head to the shop and see what he says. My head gasket and everything showed no signs at all of any leaks, bypass, or anything. Now I had tons of blow by and smoke. But that was due to a faulty rebuild of the previous owner and bad worn cylinders. They didnt even hone the cylinders so rings never seated.
