Sears Corn Sheller

I saw this old post and was wondering how you came out with the corn sheller. I bought one a while back with all wood body and legs. I have taken it apart, cleaned and oil it up. At first I used some Black Oil in a spray can on the bearings. Everything turned great until the weather cooled off and I could barely turn the darn thing. I put some Kroil in the oil holes and after a few minutes it worked easy again. Now I want to find a round belt to drive the chafe fan/paddle in the bottom. Do you or anyone else know where these can be bought in custom lengths. I guess the hollow core ones with a connector would be the easiest to use. But could probably use a solid core that would need to be welded together.

I turned the crank at the optimal speed to get the rpm of the drive gear and how many turns the flywheel turned while turning the crank handle. Came to about 4 to 1. The RPM will be about 160 to 200. I plan on turning a wooden 2" pulley to put behind the flywheel to match the metal pulley on the fan/chafe drive. If it doesn't last I will turn a metal one.

A cheap easy way to acquire a belt for the chaff fan: A 5 gal. plastic bucket will generally have a large o-ring seal around the lid. It makes an acceptable belt.

I thought about that and the bucket seal is way to long. Are they heat welded together? If so I have a rope cutter from back in my rock climbing days that should do the job. Thanks for your reply.

Well, after 6 !/2 years it is still a display piece. I have never used it.

Seeing that and knowing what the rpm potential caught my eye. I don't believe I would want to be standing close to mine with it hooked up to my Cub  . I believe I have the rations that I need to get the chafe fan working just need to get a round belt. I will probably try to get one on eBay. All the other places I have found want to sell a big spool and I don't need but about 3' total.
