Saw #501 Yesterday

I went to the IHCC Winter Convention yesterday, and I got to see the first production Cub. Glad to see they fixed the type-o on the plaque. The June casting code on the engine is still interesting to me, wish we knew the story on that!

From the info given, seems to me that the SN 501 remained the same. Just a replacement engine/block with a different SN was substituted for the original engine. Or maybe I'm confused (which is entirely possible/probable). Stan

look back in past postings and the story is told of its history, short story is 501 was given to a IH engineer who helped design it by IH, it stayed with him until the family sold it off after his passing many years later, engine was replaced along the way as it was a working tractor, current owner restored it and now brings it out for display

Right, but it is/was not common practice as I understand it to re-stamp an engine serial number on a replacement engine. To me, that's the interesting part.

I'm just glad they fixed the spelling of "Harvester" on the hood plaques.....
