Rust encapsulator

Greetings Everyone,

My maiden voyage Cub project contines with some progress being made. Mechanicaly i believe i am in pretty good shape Started the long and tedious process of striping the paint and can see the finish line.

Just wondering if anyone ever used Eastwoon rust remover and rust encapsulator prior to painting? Is it nesessay or am i making this harder than it needs to be? After all the saning and prep work, i want to try and get the best surface for paint i can get. Any suggestions or recomendations are greatly appreciated. Thank
LM

I have used encapsulators including Eastwoods on a few parts like battery boxes that were already bad in a location or two that I was trying to save but not as a general primer on solid metal.

I have used Rustoleum flat red primer as a general primer, especially under red paint, and have been happy so far. There is a gray for yellow or white tops coats.

I prime with iron gard enamel, red oxide primer, but before I prime I will wipe the painting surface down with Klean Strip Acetone, works really well. Give enough dry time between priming and painting.

I use OSPHO because it's readily available and has worked well for me for more than 20 years. Follow the label directions and allow it to dry well before applying paint. JMHO Stan

Thanks for the information everyone, greatly appreciate your input. Will give the OSPHO a try before priming and painting,
Still undecided on a painting method (rattle can or air sprayer), i have been reading paint post and have discovered there is a lot to consider before diving in. Thanks again!

Thanks Bob, yes as i have been reading the forum sprayer /hardner topics. The conversations have changed my thought process to a degree. I have PPE available but am wondering if there is a painting option that is as durable as the paint with hardner. Thoughts?

no, if you want durable you have to add hardner , harder also speeds up drying time, prevents fading

Another option for a very hard finish ,after good prepping of your parts is powder coating. It's a little pricy but the coating seems to last and doesn't fade. I worked with a powder coating company a few years ago and got a good color paint match.

Jim,
I had considered the powder coating but my concern was getting a good color match. Will touch base with a local company and see what they think and how close they can get. Appreciate the input.
