removing rear super A tires

Can i remove my super A back tires still on the rims, without taking the wheel weights off? I'm older and do not want to deal with removing that 450 lb weight

I never had any luck with taking tires off standing up!! -- mobil tire guys do BUT they have all kinds of fancy air tools to do the job with. Took one off a D grader one time cause the rim was rusted to the wheel and I said NEVER again.! The problem is that you cant beat on them with a sledgehammer standing up so you cant get tire irons drove in ,--- THEN you have no room to pry on the tires, way more chance of the irons coming out and getting yourself hurt!
The outside is not the problem,---its the inner side that you cant get to very good.
You will find its faster/easier to just take the wheel off and lay it down and go for it.
Also IF the tire is really stuck on the rim its best to just cut the old tire off and clean the rim good before putting another tire on.
Tubes are a bear to get in standing up too and these small tires are worse than the big guys are.
Cheaper to call tire guys and have them send service truck out!!

I may be wrong, but I think what you're asking is "can the tire/rim be removed from the center/wheel weights, leaving the heavy stuff in place?"
If that's your question, then the answer is yes. You just need to remove the four rim bolts, turn the rim just enough to clear the fittings and remove the tire/rim assembly.

thank you. will save me a lot of work

I think i have mislead you. I do not want to take the tire off the rim ,i want the tire and rim to come off the wheel without taking off the wheel weight

In either case the safety considerations remain the same for wedging the front axle. Your comment about avoiding to have to deal with the extra weight is understandable, a lot of us try to avoid the heavy lifting part of the project. A rear tire and rim is still a considerable load especially if the tire has added liquid ballast weight and gravity will take it where you don't want it to go if you're not careful. Dale's comment about turning enough to clear the lugs might be able to done by turning the axle/weight/wheel center a bit rather than trying to rotate the tire/rim. Just use a great deal of caution and don't get caught in a bind, especially if you're working alone. JMHO Stan

I have cubs and had a Super A, and with both used an engine hoist to handle the tire/rim assembly. It made it very easy to manhandle the removal and reinstallation... especially since I'm usually working alone.
