Re-polarizing

Alright,

I think I've got it but want to be sure.
I've got a 6V positive with voltage regulator and generator.
To re polarize the generator I run a jumper between the Batt terminal on the voltage regulator and the A terminal on the generator. Correct?

Thanks much the cub is running and charging!

As to how often you need to re-polarize, It varies. If you unhook the battery or the battery dies then the generator has to be repolarized.
At least for me, this requires taking off the hood. Not a huge deal but kind of a pain. I found this post where Rudi had setup a switch to repolarize.
I set mine up this way and it works great...highly recommended!

My 1948 came with a6volt battery but is negative grounded They had it running when I bought it I have replaced wiring harness with complications On/off switch is always on I am not sure how to verify if grounding should be neg or pos Unable to start but does turn over with no firing with battery hooked up neg ground Becoming deeper in lost Thanks from Canadian carpenter

Every Cub made before serial number 224401, which was in 1964, had a 6 volt, positive ground electrical system, if it had an electrical system. A few Cubs were made without any, just a magneto.
Someone has connected yours with negative ground. They could have just connected it with negative ground, and everything is original, and supposed to have positive ground, or someone might have replaced the generator.
It should have a 4 position light switch, which also controls the charging rate, if it is the original system.
Here is a page from the Cub owner's manual showing how it originally looked under the hood.
The 2nd page shows the 4 position switch, and how to work it.
Below that is the whole 1950 Cub owner's manual, it has lots of info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. The experts on here recommend that people read it, if you never have. There is a 1949 owner's manual, but the pics in the 1950 are better here on the internet. :)

BJM68, Recommend you go to the QUICK LINKS upper left corner of this page and download the free pdf service manual GSS 1012 which will help you to understand the magneto electrical system and the battery ignition electrical system which became available in about 1950. Not sure what you have but the approach to working on each is different. Yours could have been changed or altered from OEM sometime in the past. Knowing for sure beats guessing.
 
Good evening My 48 does not have 4 position light switch I am hoping to return system to original 6 volt I am able to order through Diamond Tractor up here as they are the Canadian source to Steiner Thanks for help and direction "Gert 2 " and l may yet may be riding to the duck pond
