Radiator recore

Curious to know if anyone has recored an original IH radiator recently?
If so , what were the costs involved ?

In my area, the hard part would first find a radiator shop and second if they would do it. I think any info on pricing from the US would not really apply in Australia.

Recently I tried to get mine boiled out and apparently the EPA got all excited about the acids in the hot tanks and no one does that anymore.

I did have some radiator shops in TX that would make radiators, but I never got a tour of the shop and suspect they were running the product across the border.

To that end, I would try capping your radiator then with it upside down, fill with cleaner and try rodding (sticking welding wire through the tubes) to clean it out. Be gentle as you don't want to go through the radiator. Be sure to use distilled water, not tap water.

And good luck!

Instead of shipping another Clancy radiator from the US , I thought I'd waste some more cash on trying to get an original recorded
What could go wrong ...

Unless he does what he has to for many of his parts. Get one recorded here in the US and have someone ship it to him down under!!

If you can find someone to do it and they don't charge you $700 to do it I'd say it's a better choice to rebuild what you have in that case.

Paul, I found a business in Greeley, Colorado (about 30 miles from me) that recores. I'll try and get up there next week for a quote. Since the problem seems to be that the base was not soldered perpendicular to the core, it may be possible for them to just remove and reset the bottom and not have to change the core. I'll also take an old one I have for comparison.

I have cleaned a few radiator cores using a trico windshield wiper by removing the rubber from the stainless steel rectangle refill frame. It is the right fit for the tubes.

Lucky I've got a very cheap and co-operative freight forwarding department in Colorado...
