Radiator overflow tube

Today while mowing my overflow tube came loose and rattled around with the fan. Is it a necessary thing or am I going to need to solder it back in place.

mine did the same thing years ago, I used a length of pvc clear house routed down past the bolster,with a tyrap. Works perfect

Thread '5 cent fix for overflow tube'

All 3 of my Cubs have the overflow tube broken off and this may not be a correct police type fix it certainly worked and can be done with the hood on.Drilled a 9/64 hole in a 1/4 inch bolt and a jam nut on the outside of the neck.The bolt fits right in the broken tube and the threads help hold the tube in place.

Nice fix. I tried it enlarge the pictures, but it says I don’t have permission.

I also was not able to open the file in the post, only view it in the message. I got the same error message when I clicked on the pic. I was then able to save it to my laptop and then open it/enlarge it. My guess is something in the code is causing the problem since the message and photos is copied and pasted from another source. You could try saving the individual photos in the same manner that I did. If that doesn't work you can try a screenshot of the images. Stan

I just left it off for now. Been having cooling trouble this whole year! Since I lose about a gallon of coolant mowing (steep hills) I put a lot of tap water in the radiator during the summer. So I cleaned it out with soda wash and then vinegar with rinses inbetween. Then I put new coolant and a 4 psi radiator cap. Then I blew an upper radiator hose (probably original to the ‘54). Fixed that and before I could even get a couple of strips of yard mowed it kept leaking coolant so I took the hood off yet again and tightened the clamps even tighter and found a puncture in the upper part of the radiator. Cleaned that up and soldered the hole shut successfully and then the hose came off and was rattling. So it’s gone for now!
