PTO pulley

Proud new owner, I think, of a 1970 loboy 154. I need to know how the pto pulley for the mower attaches to the splined shaft. It is the one piece pulley. It looks like the pulley is threaded on one side but is the shaft also theaded?

It looks like it. but mine had a nub sticking out of the hole like a bolt had snapped off. I ended up cutting a slot on each side of the hole and then breaking the chunk out to free the pulley from the shaft. I then could see that the pulley was threaded just in that hole but not the other side. I am guessing a previous owner did that. The rest of it is still in the splined shaft that isnt threaded. Now I got to try to drill it out but my bits are not liking it. I hope that I explained that well enough to understand.

pulley and shaft are NOT threaded in any way! Sounds like somebody trashed yours before you got it. You will probably now need a new shaft too.

I was able to heat it and punch out what was left. It was a bolt but shaft was not threaded and looks ok. The splines on the pulley are wore down, so the bolt was used keep it from wobbling would be my guess.

MOST of these pulleys get loose and wobble so guys drive nails in the splines, weld pulley to the shaft and all sorts of "fixes" that dont work. This was a weak point on them!

I bought what appears to be a good used 1 piece pulley on Ebay. Havent got it yet so hopefully its not wore to bad. Looks good in photos.
