PTo Adapter - fixing to PTO shaft

I purchased a HUB City 0332-00355 PTO adapter to take the 10 spline to a 6 spline.

The hole on the adapter is much larger then the hole on the PTO shaft. How do I attach the adapter to the PTO shaft. A roll pin that is tight in the shaft is loose in the adapter.

Also the adapter only goes on one way. Are us supposed to cut it so more shaft is covered?

....I have never done that particular job before nor do I know what you're end product will be used for ...But that being said a suggestion would be to completely weld the hole in the adapter shut and drill it out to match the hole in the spline...You could drill it one side at a time ( mounted on the PTO spline ) and it would align nearly perfect I would presume..Then you would have the same size hole in both pieces...Just have to be careful not to get some weld on the inner spines...Maybe even that Instant weld stuff in a tube , although I have never used it...Just throwing it out there...Dave

I still use one of those adapters on my backhoe cub. You don't have to be concerned with the oversized hole, it just keeps the adapter from sliding off. The adapter splines fit snug on the pto splines for rotational purposes. I use a piece of solid rod and grind so it's just wide enough to catch the material on the adapter on both sides and then my hub set screw tightens down onto the adapter. Once you slide something over the adapter with that ground rod, it can't come off because your hub you added keeps the rod from coming out. If you use an added hub with a hole in it, just install a big cotter pin to go through both pieces.

Usually when you slide something over the adapter, it goes on far enough to be placed over the full pto slines. Now if you slid something onto the adapter just at the very end, you'd snap the adapter in short order.
