Power question when plowing

Hi all,
I have a question about plowing with my Farmall cub. I picked up a moldboard plow for my cub this spring. My question is it normal for these tractors to stall under a load? For example when I was plowing I would hit roots that would cause the tractor to stall. This was also ground that has never been plowed before.
 
Yeah roots will stall a tractor pulling a moldboard. Of course, root size has something to do with that. I like using a cub pan plow when roots are present. It will slice through a lot of roots.
 
I have a Brinley 10" 3-pt on my cub and go 12" deep BUT it kills it now and then. Gotta remember a cub only has 9.2 hp and each plow bottom needs 10 hp to pull them!!

Below is the Cub 193 Plow owner's manual, if you don't have it. It has lots of info, it shows how to put the plow on the Cub, and all the parts that it should have.
The 193 Plow is for Cubs with the drawbar hitch.
The plow needs the Depth Adjusting Lever, to the right of the seat, to work right.
This won't stop the engine from stalling if you hit roots, but you can see if the plow is mounted correctly.
You don't use the manual lift lever, to the left of the seat, shown in the manual, if the Cub has Touch Control.

Properly tuned cub plowing in low should spin out before it stalls the engine. Only took me 50 years and reading the 193 manual to get the plow adjusted.

Do you have the limiting chain on it? If you don’t it will try to take a 16 inch share..,
 
Thanks all for the info. I wasn’t sure if it was normal or not for the cubs to stall when plowing. I’ll definitely look into see if I have it set up right too.
 
When doing work like plowing, the Cub engine should have a tune up, and the timing set right, so it has good power.
If the ignition points, and spark plugs, are in poor condition, and ignition timing is set wrong, it can have less power than it should. The points need the right gap also.
I think the chain ntrenn is talking about above is the one added after the 1949 manual I posted above was made. It is shown in the 1951 Cub 193 Plow owner's manual.
