Pellet Gun Setup

My wife Tracy purchased a pellet gun for me last year for my birthday. I'd wanted a good pellet gun for quite awhile but just never pulled the trigger on one  (pun intended).

The pellet gun, a Crosman Vantage-NP (nitrogen piston) came with a cheap scope as most do and after trying to use it, I removed it from the gun. I used just the open sights for a while but I really wanted a decent scope. I couldn't see spending much money on one so I searched for quite awhile for a used but decent scope like a Weaver K4 but wasn't finding anything I liked.

Then I happened to remember that my sister had purchased a BSA red dot scope for me, most likely at a garage sale. She probably spent a dollar or two on it. It was brand new, still in the box but I knew that it was a cheap sight but I wondered how it would work on my pellet gun. The base of the red dot was a tip off mount which is larger than the grooves on the pellet gun. I found an adapter that would fit the reciever on the pellet gun and provide a mount for the tip off base on the red dot.
The combination has proved to be great together! In fact, I can't think of a better combination and I can't think of a better fit on the pellet gun. I think I'm happier with it than I would've been if I had found a decent scope for it.

I have Weaver K4s on both of my .22 rifles. Just enough magnification for rabbits and groundhogs at the farm. Do they make red dot sights with more magnification than 1X?

Nice set-up Ricky.
I use a Crosman Optimus with open sights to control the squirrel population. They chew through our Critterfence material around our Vegetable Garden and Strawberry Patch.
Pretty good out to about 100 feet.
CCI 22 Subsonic work pretty well to.

I don't know Don. Mine doesn't seem to have any magnification but for a pellet gun and the close range I use it, it's just fine. I've got it sighted in for about 50 feet.
I've got a Weaver K4 on my Ruger 10/22. I've had it for decades and love it.

I’m so envious. We aren’t even allowed a BB gun down here.
Are you serious? Is that a city ordnance? I always pictured Australia as a frontier where good men weren't under the thumb of the government.

I have a bunch of raised bed veggie plots and if rabbits or squirrels or raccoons start munching then they go...and I live in town. Granted that I have a salt marsh on 2 sides and a hill on the other side, but I would figure out a way. I don't mind a little sharing but enough is enough. It seems like the dogs on the neighbor side keep them over my way and they seem to replace themselves as fast as they go.

I use multiple techniques to keep the nuisance critters under control. Anything that pays the price does not go to waste. The vultures and foxes are well fed, thanks to me. We’ve even had eagles visit from time to time to enjoy a meal.

We had a Bald Eagle land on one of our coons last week!
