Painting question

I have searched this forum to try and find like a master list of what was painted red and what wasn't, plus what was on the tractor when it was painted on the assembly line and what wasn't. I want to paint my Super A and Super W6 and want to know if the magneto, starter, generator, coil, and anything else anyone can think of were on the tractor when originally painted or if they were left off and left to the original colors (black/silver/grey)
 
From what I've red they hosed everything down red on the assembly line, Some of it burnt off like on the manifold, etc. The rims were gavlonized.
Now, when people repaint their tractors today they put more time and care into them than what they were originally, mine are no differnt.
For mine the starter is black, and I'm going to do the rear axles black on the 200, Pete did this on his super C build and I like the looking. Rims are iron guard aluminum. Manifold is POR15 high temp aluminum. Everything else is IH2150.
 
One of the books from Guy Fay has a list of what things were masked before painting. The actual list probably changed some over time. The masking as done on the line seemed to be a little haphazard. Masked items included: magneto or battery ignition unit (and I think plug wires), light and gauge lenses, serial tag, generator and starter tags, fuel sediment bowl glass, electrical connections, that was about it. Some things were not installed until after the tractor was painted: lights (after they got Guide to supply them in red), steering wheel, seat pan, tires and rims, wheel weights. The curved guide part next to the Touch-Control levers probably belongs on this list as well.

This doesn't apply to the Super A. The straight rear axles that were used with clamp-on adjustable wheels were not painted (were masked). Paint would make track adjustments very difficult. They were black and did not rust for years. I assume they were Parkerized or given some chemically similar treatment.

Oh Jim I wished you wouldn't have said parkerized. Now it has me thinking about getting my tanks out (I've parkerized M1s and other stuff). But I think I'll just paint them black and be done.
