Oil Pressure

I changed the oil in the cub and buttoned it up and had no oil pressure. Tried a bunch of things....reversed the oil filter, put the old filter back in, poured a half a quart of oil down the filter holder, removed the oil gauge and made sure the short connection piping wasn't blocked, changed the oil gauge. I honestly don't know if it was working before the oil change and I haven't run it in 8 months. Thoughts? Thanks

I'm guessing the gauge didn't work. Loosen the the filter top and see if it leaks while running for a few quick seconds.

The oil pump may have lost its prime. If you pull the cap off of the oil filter housing, you'll see a small hole towards the back of the housing near the top of the housing. It's about 3/8" in diameter. Squirt a generous amount of oil down that hole with an oil can or a squirt bottle. Reinstall the cap, let it set for a while and try it again. Keep in mind it will take a few seconds (maybe 10 seconds) for the oil to fill the housing before you see any pressure on the gauge. Those seconds of waiting for the pressure to show up on the gauge is nerve racking...:sneaky:

I put a brand new gauge on to replace the old one. I will that a try pouring oil down that hole in the back of the cup...I was just dumping oil into the empty filter cup. Couldn't remember how to prime... thanks

yes it sounds like lost prime, follow what ricky says, if it comes to life with oil pressure it is a sign bearings are worn so start it more often
