Oh Kroil is me, oh Kroil is me!

Howdy folks. Time for some advice.

I'm about out of my Kroil, and need to do a reorder. I bought two cans of the Kroil Aerospray, and it came with a 1/2 pint of the Kroil squirt can. I've either used one can of Aerospray or misplaced it.   The 1/2 pint squirt can is giving me indications it is time to buy again.

The other can of aerospray will hardly spray at all. If I shake the spray can, iIt appears to have a decent amount left in it. I've changed the spray nozzle, and the same effects are seen.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Do you think Kanolabs might work a deal for replacement? I know I bought these back around 2008 at the earliest, and I'm guessing around 2009 at the latest. So, I'll not hold my breath on this.

Also, has anyone heard of any deals going on with Kanolabs on the Kroil? I have enough to wait for a special, but if there's something going on now, I can certainly buy some and put it on the shelf.

BTW, I've heard again that WD40 does wonders for the arthritis in your knuckles. I can't confirm those comments though.

Any help is much appreciated. Oh! I'm also looking for the best places price wise to get a gallon of Seafoam. Might as well stock up whilst I'm at it.

I have encounterd several cans of Kroil that seem to run out of aerosol before the can is actually empty. I have heard where some guys have punctured the can to get the rest out but I don't like, nor do I recommend that idea.

I have only bought 2 cans of Kroil and it has happened to both so no more kroil for me. My limited experience with the customer support at Kano labs has been disappointing so I would not expect them to replace the cans but you never know, it may happen. I like Kroil for the smell, smells like a cleaner my mother used when I was a child called "Lestoil", same pine oil smell.

A test in Green Magazine, May 2010, rusted bolts and rusted pins showed no difference between major brands including Kroil.

I use the Wal-mart brand, works well, cheap, unfortunately does not have the pine oil smell.

Ah Bill. I agree with you there. Too much chance of something spraying in the eyes, mouth, etc. Though I do remember some of our members jokingly writing about how they thought it tasted better than some of the other rust penetrant oils.

Not me though!

Landreo: Where abouts did you find the Walmart brand? As in what aisle? I take it you're referring to a spray aerosol, right?

I was at the local NAPA store yesterday, and saw SEAFOAM was on sale. Only in the small cans, though.

I bought a gallon to have on hand for the Barnyard Bash I found it at Oh, oh, oh, O'Reilly's for about $55 a gallon which was about ten bucks cheaper than Advanced and Autozone.

Dale F: I'll call and see what they (NAPA) have in pricing. There are a couple of NAPA's within a 25 mile round trip for me.

Hmmmm. I remember buying some Seafoam at a local NorthernTools. I bought two 1 gallon cans at $34.95/gal there a year or so ago. I might have to check that out again and see if I can get lucky one more time.

I just checked kanolabs website for Kroil, and it appears I can get one can of aerosol Kroil for free if I order a pint of Kroil.

That might be the way I'll go. Thanks guys for the input. I do appreciate it a lot.

Cheers!

I have had the same problem with Kroil and know that mine have never frozen.

Two counter points.

If a 12oz can from brand x has 8 oz of oil and 4 oz of propellant, the propellant may run out when 6 oz of oil used, buyer unhappy. Brand y has 4 oz of oil and 8 oz of propellant, propellant outlasts oil, buyer happy.
When the can is full, I think nothing of holding the can bottom side up to get oil into a hard to reach place, knowing full well that I am blowing out mostly propelllant. Still not happy when the propellant doesn't outlast the oil.

in my experience, kroil has been more effective. i did see the same thing, propellent seems to go before the oil. i press the nozzle to make sure its "empty", take a shop rag, wrap around a sharp sheet metal scribe in case there might be a little propellent i missed, and tap it with a hammer to make a small hole. no loss, no propellent, no "whoosh". val a.

Ok. I ordered a 1/2 pint of the squirt Kroil yesterday from Kanolabs. Came to about $8.00 + whatever the shipping was.

Northern Tools has the 1 pint can of Seafoam for $6.48 in my area - no gallon cans.

O'Reilly's is $9.99/pint, and $54.99/gal. Big difference in price there!

Called Napa...$6.49/pint, and they can order through the end of this month 1 gallon cans of Seafoam for $46.89 + tax. Looks to be the best buy yet.

I already know AutoZone in my area is sky high - in fact the hot air balloons get lost there.

So, I guess I'll order from NAPA and get a gallon. That should last for a little while.

Thanks folks. BTW, I'll check with Walmart on their spray rust penetrant and see what's there.

I hope everyone has a great day.

BTW, managed to get some seat time this weekend. Decided to take the Cub out and do a bit of riding. Even had a couple of people wave at me as I puttered right on by. Gotta love these Cubs!

The down side of this is the chance (however small it probably is) that it quit squirting because of a clog in the nozzle rather than being out of propellant.

I have the same issues with Seafoam, PB, WD, and Kroil. You can squeeze the can sides in to make some added pressure. That sometimes works for short while. After I have a few cans piled up, I also just lay a rag over the top and drive a round pointed punch in two opposite places on the top, then fill up a squirt oil can. Usually if you can collapse the sides of the can there isn't hardly any pressure inside from propellant.

guess I'd better stock up on some Johnsonville's :D :D

I have never used Kroil, but if you have an Agco (Massey Ferguson, Agco-Allis, etc) dealer close by,get a can of Agco "panther" penetrating oil. I have had really good results with it. It foams up when you spray it and seems to cling to the part so it has a better chance of working. I believe caseIH has a similar (probably the very same) product.
