8’ long from tip to tip and handle is roughly twice the diameter of a regular shovel. And there’s not much angle to to shovel. Any idea on its purpose? The lady has 3 of them. They belonged to her late husband

I have a few, they were my dads, he came back from ww2 and worked for the phone company digging holes for poles, it was all done by hand then

Yup. My thought.

Worked for a company assembling a water tower. Boss gave me a "spoon" about 8 feet long and told me to dig a hole 6 feet deep for an electric pole.

Wow! A 6 ft hole with an 8 ft shovel? How wide would the hole be at the top? With my luck I would run into a large rock at 5 feet! Vern

My brother worked for a landscape Co. while in college. The shovels they used had straight shanks to dig holes with straight sides. I have looked for one in area stores but they are special order only and high priced.
