:lost: we have rewired my cub to a 12v system and left the magneto on it. Finally got to a point today to try turning the motor over and found there is no spark. What should We look for so we can get this old girl going?
Rewiring to 12 volts should have nothing to do with magneto, unless it has an external coil. First suggestion would be to disconnect the kill wire on the side of magneto and see if spark comes back. Also, check spark at wire from coil cover to distributor cap.
Hi,
There are ignition points in the magneto, they need replacing, if they haven't been replaced in years, they affect the engine starting, and running smoothly, if they get burned enough, the engine won't run, there will not be any spark.
The condenser could have quit, then there would be no spark.
Or the coil could have quit, it is common for original Cub coils to quit.
The points and condenser are less money to buy than a new magneto coil, so you could start by replacing those.
Below is a page from the Cub owner's manual telling how to service the points.
Below that are listings at TM Tractor showing new points and condenser, and a coil, if you want to see them.
