No spark

I have a 49 cub that was running fine on a magneto. After trailering it to a show, it would not start. Long story short.... put a new 12 volt distributor and coil on it and it will not start. No spark. I assuming I don't have the timing set right. I've seen 3 different settings (rotor button) now. Not sure where to set it when on TDC. Magneto was set at 2 o'clock .
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Grandson is losing faith.

with cylinder #1 on Top Dead center compression stroke the pointer should line up to the mark on the crank pulley , and the rotor blade should line up to the #1 terminal on the distributor cap, do you have power to the coil? do the points have power to them ?

Welcome to the forum. Several possible causes, plug wires could be crossed changing from mag to distributor, distributor timing not set right to engine timing, wiring issues, etc. Your post says you have a 12v distributor and coil, is this from a later model cub? The conversion manual (cover shown) gives instructions for converting to 12v. Stan

You need a different ignition switch than the magneto uses.
The original magneto ignition switch has 1 post for a wire.
The Battery Ignition unit ignition switch has 2 posts for wires.
The battery power has to go through the ignition switch to the coil, for Battery Ignition.

If you simply connected the wire that was attached to the side of the mag, to the battery ignition coil, it is never going to run. For the magneto, that is the grounding (kill) wire. You need to supply voltage to the battery ignition coil.
