I am trying to figure out the model year on my cub that is missing the ID plate. All of the casting year codes are S indicating those parts were manufactured in 1949. Does this mean the tractor is a 1949 model? Or would it have been assembled in 1949 as a 1950 model? I plan to do a full restoration and the decals changed from 1949 to 1950 and I just want to get it right.

Early S dates would indicate 1949, however late dates such as November or December could be 1950

Do you think it has the original engine? If so, do you have an engine number (stamped on block, near carburetor)?

IH did not really have model years like cars. Changes were made when the inventory of the old part number ran out, not with the calendar year.
