Just got a 154 engine inwant to rebuild and put on one of my older f-cubs. I pulled head off tonight and has the domed pistons. Governor wasntbwith this enhine but cylinders are in good shape. Manifold and carb is also gone.
Couple questions
1) what max rpm did this 154 run at?
2) zenith carb?
3) will my f-cub governor work on this?
4) was the camshaft the same?

I would have to do some searching and comparing from the parts lists but based on some recent posts the OEM carb was IH. On FCubs, the carb change to Zenith was a tractor SN 248124 (1974?) and the intake was larger for the larger carb. Do you know or can obtain the 154 SN? That would help to ID what you have. JMHO Stan
 
Look at the back end of the crank, many 154’s were not drilled for the clutch pilot bushing, otherwise will fit without issue. Yes, you can use your F Cub governor but it will still run 1800, give or take.
 
Stuck my finger in it last night, it has the hole but was late so didnt look to see if it had the bushing.
Had a couple guys that are experienced with the old fcubs tell me i can adjust the old governors. Sound right?

Just for information, there was an extended post on the forum by Rockfarmer that detailed the restoration of a FCub that used a 154 donor engine. It covered several months and very detailed. Stan

Rockfarmer was from Texas at that time. The post ran continuously over several months, was quite long (several pages) and very interesting. Best I remember he had to have the CS drilled for the pilot bearing as a part of the engine rebuild. Big Grand Finale was a raffle sale with donations going to a charity and Forum Member Mr Bill Hudson was the expert guest of honor to explain to the winner all about the Farmall Cub tractor. It sorta stuck with me maybe because the guy is from a city not too far from me in AL and he brought me the rest of the 154 for parts which I still have. :) :cool: Stan
