New (to me) Cub Cadet 122

So this model 122 followed me home. It's generally in good condition - runs and drives pretty well. There's no deck as you can see, and the PTO doesn't seem to do anything. I plan to refurbish it completely and use it for pulling a trailer and maybe get some implements in the future. Any advice on what should be the first thing to work on?

I have a '54 Fcub, and have really enjoyed going through it almost completely, but this is my first Cub Cadet.

Looks like a nice one to start with, appears relatively original. Obviously the seat has been changed and the steering wheel. Likely a replacement engine since it's black. I suggest taking your time and see what actually needs to be addressed, like Cubs, they are pretty simple to work on.
I have 4 of that model, they are pretty popular/common so parts are readily available.
Good luck,
David

I had about 2 or 3 122s a few years ago. The steering might be loose, there are a couple of adjustments or fixes that could help there if is loose. The 122 (and the 123) was the models from IH to get the K301 Kohler. The Original and the 100 had just the 10 hp, while the 70 had the 7 hp. The 100 was replaced by the 102 when IH came out with the 122.

Thanks for the advice. Where do you get parts?

Where do you get parts?
For new parts, some are still available at better/older Cub Cadet dealers. Site sponsor, Hamilton Bob's offers some. Probably the most comprehensive on line place is Cub Cadet Specialties. For used parts, Ray Weaver in Denver PA is a popular choice. There's a few people who offer specialty parts, so if you get stumped, just post a question and perhaps we can help.
Best of luck,
David
