Well I got the new starter for Old Smokie yesterday, the people at Nations Starter & Alternator are fast I ordered it on monday and got it at 2: PM tuesday,
But now for the Bad Sad part,,, it was not the started that was bad, A long time ago some one on here posted an idea for safety about when you take your cub to a cub fest
and children are around and may start your cub and some one could get hurt, they said to put in some kind of a safety switch, I thought that was a good idea and did so.
the problem was in the switch not my starter, I was getting 12.72 volts at the starter but it would not turn it over on the tractor so I took it of and hook it up and it worked fine
So I started checking everything, I took the switch out of the system and hooked the wire right to the Battery and Bingo it started right up,
here is a picture of the switch,

Sorry to here about your problems with the starter. Sometimes it is the simple things that cause the problems, and the steps to find them should be done first. Yesterday I went out to a friend's house to replace a starter on one of his cubs, and found that the conection to the battery was bad, and not the starter itself. Your problem would have been a little harder to find than his because of the voltage at the starter. I am sure that someone will need the starter at some point, and the price will only go up, so you can call it an investment.

Switches can be sneaky. I was checking a sudden onset, "no start" issue, on a friend's SA. Spark tester showed spark. Had fuel. Timing was ok. Called Cecil, for a consultation. He said, "bypass the switch" (Ignition switch) I did, and it started, in about 2 revolutions! Volt meter, showed less than 1 volt, coming from the switch. (6 V system). Enough to show spark, in the tester, but not enough to jump the plug gap. Sometimes, simple things, cause big problems! Ed
