New guy here with a question

Hey everyone. I'm glad that I finally found this place. I hope to do a bit of looking around to familiarize myself with it better in the near future.

I have a 1946 Farmall A that my dad bought before I was born (1964). He gave it to me a few years ago and I have slowly been fixing it up and more recently I took it to a friend up in Ohio and he reassembled the front part of the engine and got it running for me. Years ago my dad had a car's power steering pump installed in order to have hydraulics and when it took it to a welding shop to fabricate the bracket, the guy cut the front corner of the hood out for the belt to run. I decided to remove that and replace the hood. I found one and cleaned it and painted it and took it with me when I took the A to my friend. When he got ready to install the hood he found out that it was about 1-1/2" too long and the holes don't line up exactly; close, but not exact.

So, my question is, could this hood be from a different year model A, a Super A, or a different model altogether?

There are a whole series of models starting with the A that use large numbers of identical or interchangeable parts. Between these models (and Power Units) there are multiple variations of the sheet metal. Some of it interchanges, some of it not. The longer hood may pair up with the models like the Super C that used a taller radiator.

The Super A used the same hood as the later A (like yours).

Definitely. We were looking at the same thing on cubs. The rear hood brackets and instrument panels go farther forward on the later years.
Not exactly sure when the change happened and just noticed because they were sitting side by side with the hoods off..
Magneto model was different from the distributor model.

FYI, there are at least 3 different dash hood lengths for the cub, short, long, and no ear (bobbed). Take a look at the Cub link Save the Cub by Barnyard.

Thanks for the replies. I found out that a hood from the same year model A tractor will fit my dad's. I had purchased another '46 model a few years ago to use as a parts tractor. But after seeing the condition of it I decided against doing that. I did a dry fit of the hood from it on Dad's and it was a perfect fit with the only exception being that the J-hooks need to be relocated. Once I get that done I'll try and post some pics for y'all.
