Noon and it finally reached 0 degrees F.

I guess temps are relative.

Yup it's relative. Spent 7 years in the Panama Canal Zone. TDY (temporary duty) to Maryland in mid winter. Was sitting in the hotel room with thermostat set on high and bundled up in a blanket when the maid entered. She said the room was hot, I told her that I was from Panama and the room was cold.

Also, first year living in Missouri, from 300 miles north, central Iowa, construction folks were wearing Carharts and parkas when it was 40 degrees outside.

We have an electric heater in our well pump house and leave the faucet running when it gets below 28 F. We don't usually have this many cold nights in a row and the lines have frozen before. It was 7 F above this morning at 5:20, I know that is warm to a lot of y'all :lol:

When/if I hit the Power Ball, I have some things to correct in my 121 year old house that will cost big bucks.

Upstairs kitchen and basement bath, part of the original house, waste/drain is about 3 feet below the earth surface. OK, that's good.

The bath, laundry, converted porch, are on a separate drain/waste. This waste/drain is less than 1 inch below the earth surface and the vent pipe is located outside the basement wall, about 18 inches above ground surface.

If I get a prolonged very hard freeze, I think the bath/laundry waste will ice/freeze up. Had this happen in Iowa when the water and sewage lines froze up. Yup, the 3 foot deep waste/sewage lines froze up. Every flush of the toilet just made things worse.

I got you beat Stanton...my house is 1639...an old tidal mill house, but I have many of the same issues and more....The garage is the old water race and it has a big radiator in it to keep the pipes in the crawl space from freezing. My bigger fear is the pipes that run up through the house on the outside walls since you can imagine the quality of the insulation. The house is a labour of love and fear.

We are supposed to get a "bomb cyclone" tonight and tomorrow Long Island to boston followed by a polar vortex....gunna be a long cold 3 days or so.

Had -24 a few nights ago then -18, last night a bit warmer.-- weekend they say +36 and rain! lol!! Furnace runs about 4 or 5 times per hour, lp heat sucks, (cold air to me can't beat oil) . Hope well don't freeze, so far this year it has been ok.
Can only go out long enough to feed/water barn cats and hobble down to the mail box, then back to the house. Not getting any work done on the trucks/equipment/etc., Doing a little in the house, put led celing light up in side room, etc., did a bit on a couple of the wood locks, been on computer a lot! thanks; sonny

We use 2 pellet stoves until 22F and below that we crank up the oil funace.

We woke up to -15 degrees yesterday morning. Living this close to the great lakes we can expect lake effect snow anytime we get northwesterly winds across the lake. This is what todays weather was showing for the next few days...

Life sucks when your are bored and can't work outside. Also, no parts have arrive for my winter projects.

Been through the seed catalogs marking the seeds I want to order. Made a list of grocery shopping items I want to cook. Me cooking; Italian bread with garlic butter, chicken livers with onions. Not sure what to do with the hamburger, perhaps meat loaf.

Still have some of my rump roast stew in the fridge and left over carrots and celery to use up before I make anything else.

Wife won't eat some thing including liver. Should disquise some of the liver in the meat loaf and not tell her about it. As long as I cook and wash dishes, she doesn't complain and tells every one I'm a good cook.

-9 here this morning with a - 21 wind chill My concern is the Treated Diesel fuel we are running in our Fire Trucks is tested to -18 I hope it warms up soon.
