That's what I've been saying but we don't know anyone that would come and help out.Seems like you need some in person help, you're missing something that maybe another set of eyes will catch.

No, the air cleaner oil fill level isn't allowing oil to be inhaled.Air cleaner oil fill level allowing oil to be inhaled?
Choke lever on backside of carb loose or slipped and choke position isn't what prior adjusting rod suggests it is and not enough air getting through?
A valve or two not seated that should be due to a gob of carbon or just a sticky valve?
Conking out under load puts a strain on what the most?
Rotor turning...YesWell its in timing somewhere...Is the rotor turning???? Dist cap and rotor match each other????? Someone needs to turn the engine and see if each park plug wire is sending juice...[spark]
JMHO, some of the response posts seem to not take into account that this is/was a running tractor that was purposefully shut down and would not restart. As for changing the plug wires, it's very easy to get one or more connected to the wrong place so that should be verified. As for getting some help, this might not be possible for you but you can't do any better than a Cubfest. I've seen some hopeless cases brought back to life at these events. StanRotor turning...Yest
Dist cap and rotor match? Yes
We'll get together when time allows and check each spark plug wire. He's done this alone...but we have replaced the wires and plugs after this happened. Is there still a chance it's in the new wires?
You're correct. She was running, shut down on purpose, then would not restart. The motor turns over but it won't catch and fire up. I'm pretty sure the wires are in the correct spots.JMHO, some of the response posts seem to not take into account that this is/was a running tractor that was purposefully shut down and would not restart. We're not able to get too far away from Daddy, even 3 1/2 hours is too far. I would LOVE to attend, not only to get Cubbie fixed, but it would be awesome to meet you all in person. I know I don't post here much, but I'm so familiar with a lot of your names, I feel like I know yall already. lolStan has made a fantastic suggestion, assuming you can wait until March. There's the LA Cubfest in Bogalusa, LA, that is only about 3 and 1/2 hours from you. You really should consider attending, for both the assistance you'll get with your tractor, as well as meeting many knowledgeable and generous folks from this forum! Great fun, and even better food!!
They haven't posted the exact dates yet, but it's usually in March, and should be listed in the next couple months. This is last year's link:
2024 sure did fly by fast. Here we are ready to start the 2025 CubFest season. As we head into our 19th year, we hope to see more folks wanting to get out and enjoy Cub camaraderie. We hope many members who have never attended a CubFest will decide to put this on their bucket list this year. All too many times a member will say it is too far to travel. In reality, numerous attendees will travel over 1,000 miles and reserve a motel room to attend CubFests year after year. The CubFest hosts continue to provide great Cub events for all.
In 2024 we saw more people starting to...

Isn't it? lol I'll be glad when it's running too! It's gone from head scratching to bangin our heads on the walls, for sure! I'm still saying it's going to be something simple that is staring us in the face, but I'm no mechanic lolWow...this is a good one...I'll be glad when its running...Frustrating for sure!!!! Can't wait to here what it was...Nuthin like bangin your head on the wall!!!!!!!!!!![]()
You need to get ahold of Kevin and Renee Love in Sylacauge, Alabama. They work on Cubs all the time. You can find them on Facebook group page: Farmall Cubs 47-79That's what I've been saying but we don't know anyone that would come and help out.
I'll run this by him when he gets back. Pretty sure he's checked the timing more than once and it's not out of time. Thanks for the info!Have you checked the insulator on the outside of the magneto stud to see if spark is going to ground. Also make sure none of the wires inside magneto are touching the housing. There is also a square plastic insulator inside the magneto housing. Also magneto point gap is .013”, not .020”. Just confirming in case. Pinion gear and rotor gear have timing marks on them. Make sure they are lined up. You may have done some or all of this but trying to help if I can. Have you checked to see if you are 180* out of time? Good Luck!
First of all, glad that the Cub is running and congrats to both of you for not giving up. Secondly, this has probably been a significant learning experience and that is part of the satisfaction (at least for me) to resolve problems and return it to useful service. That being said and to go back to your original post I would venture to say that when your hubby shut the engine down, something that you will probably never know what it was happened but almost 100% sure that it did not jump time!!! It was probably something rather small but great enough to keep the engine from restarting. All the time and effort spend spent corrected whatever it was but in the meantime something else happened to keep it from starting, could have been the rotor/pinon not aligned correctly, plug wires crossed, mag engine timing got off 180 deg. just to name a few. We've all been there/done that...... there's no "stones to throw" from here. Patience and perseverance will resolve most problems.................... You've proved that!! JMHO Stan............... The Cub is running again!! He rechecked the timing for the 4th time and whatever he found, fixed it. I guess it was the timing all along!.........

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear it is running again...Had to be timing....Nuthin like banging your head on the wall either...great news and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!While I feel like a walk of shame is necessary, I'm too happy to walk it!! The Cub is running again!! He rechecked the timing for the 4th time and whatever he found, fixed it. I guess it was the timing all along! While on this journey, we did replace a few things that would have probably needed replacing sooner or later, so we should be good to go for a while.
We want to thank each and every one of you that offered all of the great advice. You have no idea how much you helped us! Thanks again to you all!!
