Napa Filter sale.

Just for curiosity, I checked RockAuto, and sure enough, they carry the WIX 51153 Oil Filters for $7.86 plus shipping (USPS - $5.99 for 1, $6.99 for 2, $7.99 for 3).
I ordered (3) Friday night 10/10. They shipped from Syracuse, NY on Saturday 10/11, headed West to Rochester, NY, then East to Springfield, MA, then South to Hartford, where they arrived at 11:00pm last night. Supposed to have them on Tuesday 10/14 by 9:00pm in Stafford Springs. I never can figure out how the USPS is still in business!

My net cost for (3) with a 5% discount is $10.78 each, all from the comfort of my Lazy Boy Recliner.

Yes, the United States Postal Service (USPS) is a federal entity, specifically an independent agency of the executive branch of the U.S. federal government, responsible for providing mail service within the United States. However, while it is a federal entity, it is also a government-business hybrid that is self-funded through the sale of postage, products, and services, rather than from tax dollars.

From all I've seen and heard it does not generate enough cash flow to be self sufficient so the shortfall has to come from somewhere and the only source available is the federal government. JMHO Stan
 
In researching whether the USPS receives any funding from the federal government, a lot of weasel words are used in describing that financial relationship.
 
The USPS also has the decided disadvantage that congress saddles it with a bunch of semi-arbitrary restrictions that the competition is not. Try calling up Fed-Ex and asking them to stop by your place 6 days a week just in case you want to send something. While checking that, ask what they will do for 78 cents.
