I'm in West Mi. I talked to a man at our local tractor show. He has a Mott flail mower for a cub for sale. He told me it is in good condition and is complete. He used it once on a 48 but doesn't need it at all. I am wondering what it is worth.

fast hitch type sales for more than belly mount, if it is all welded up probably broken from vibration, leave it alone

They do cut real nice on flat ground.....good blades???? roller good....lots can vary on the price and if everything is there......complete with everything..pulleys,belts all hook up...$400 range....shape matters

52Dave, a consideration before you buy

The mott flail will cut high grass without loading the Cub down. But it does not mulch it like a rotary mower. Some people do not like it because of that. It really depends on what you want to use it for. Pasture or like like it will be good. For a lawn, it may not give the results you are looking for.

If you want to cut lawn and high grass an IH c-2 or woods 42 are excellent options.

Flail mowers have problems cutting fescue allowed to grow tall. Tall fescue will not cut and will ball up the cutter blades. Fescue is a common lawn and pasture grass in the mid-west.

Works really well at taking down the garden at the end of the season, chops right through okra stalks, tomatoes, corn, etc.
Got tall fescue sometimes best to either cut half a length or raise it off the ground a few inches and make an initial pass before coming back over it all the way down.
I prefer it to the rotary mower for taking down tall vegetation.

Thanks for the reply's. I have not used or even seen a flail mower before. The one he has is mid mounted and I really don't want to pull the cultivators off to put it on. ( I use the cultivators all summer.) If anyone else is interested in it or the buzz saw he has for sale PM me and I'll try to get you his contact info.
