Mott Flail Mower Bearing ID question

Hi all,

I have a 48" belly mounted Mott flail mower with shot cutter shaft bearings. I pulled them and went to buy new ones only to find that they're not what the 'should' be. The pulley side is 1 1/8" ID, 2.44" OD. Other side is 1 3/16" ID, 2.44" OD (don't ask me why they use decimals for one, fractions for the other!). I haven't been able to locate the right size bearing locally, so I called Flailmaster. Folks were very helpful, but couldn't figure out why one side would be one size and the other another and the don't carry the 1 1/8" bearing. The shaft is in good shape and doesn't seem to have been modified. It's the 3 hole, "old style" bearing housing. Anyone have ideas or experience with this? I don't really need to understand the mystery though that would be interesting. Mostly I just need to find the proper bearing!

Well, after 'retiring' from automotive mechanics, I worked auto parts for many years. The old-school part of me would grab the National bearing paper catalog and see what was available in the dimensions I required. New school would be to peruse a bearing manufacturer's website, or the "Easy button" route is to contact each bearing manufacturer via email or chat describing what you have/need, and let their fingers do the walking for you, so that you can obtain a part number, then search online to see who has that part number for what price.
 
This is not helpful to your bearing search... but, I would like to know how popular were/are Mott mowers? I had a 48" Mott knife/flail mower under my old Allis C when I bought it in 89. Fine cut, like for a golf course. Worked very well for my use. Did Mott go under or were they bought by another company?

Edit: I found the website for Montage Enterprises. Apparently they are the successors to Mott...? Anyway they list parts they have available for Mott mowers. Maybe they have the correct bearings.

Sorry for your plight...do either of your bearings have legible numbers?? Starting with those numbers, google should find you a cross reference number. A google of ‘timken ag bearing’ hit on a cross reference catalog. If you really have 1-1/8 and 1-3/16 id’s you have ag bearings. Along the lines of the woods pulley bearings (205krr6) or so. I found those for less than $5 each...bought a lifetime supply...shoot us the numbers on the races...bearings will materialize
