I have two different types of metal roofs on two different houses and a barn. One house and the barn are the standard G-Rib type of metal. The other looks like shingles and is installed in interlocking horizontal panels. The second is coated with fine aggregate, just like an asphalt shingle. The second type is 2 to 3 times the cost of the first, but in my opinion, worth it for a residential application. Both were installed on the houses over 1 inch rigid foam insulation, in addition to the normal water barrier. The shingle looking type is guaranteed for 50 years. Far longer, by a factor of 2 or 3, than you’ll get out of an asphalt shingle. With the rigid foam insulation, there is no more rain noise than an asphalt shingle. Metal roofs are far less susceptable to wind damage than asphalt shingles. I highly recommend either type of metal roof. DM me if you have any questions.
