New to club. Looking for a Cub mechanic. Have early 50s Cub running very good but hear rod knock ??, when coasting down hill. Want a mechanic to give it the once over. Northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin. Thank you.

I would start with checking all your fluid levels ?

I'm looking for a mechanic as well near Rochester NY. All the farm implement dealers in this neck of the woods that used to be available closed or sell Kubotas.

Welcome. Like @JimCub48 said when not level low oil can let it knock.

If the noise is only while coasting, it might be coming from the transmission. You need to get someone else to listen to it. It can be any mechanic, doesn't need Cub-specific knowledge to listen to it. It might help to post a recording of it. But sound is usually lost/distorted on internet videos.

Can yell tell by the photo what kind of Cub I have, no vin plate.
In an earlier post you said early 50's. From 1947 until 1955 only FCubs were made. 1955 introduced the offset loboy, basically the same tractor except the overall height was lowered 8 inches and some cosmetic changes were made. Can you post a picture? JMHO Stan

You indicated all your levels were good, I would recheck the transmission level again , maybe even drain it to make sure it not water or partial water , and replace with an 80 90 weight.

This thread is getting a little mixed up. The original poster, Sborg is in northern IL. Another member, jobbyjim is looking for help near Rochester, NY.
