LoBoy 154 Read Tire Options?

I have a 1970 IH LoBoy 154 that needs rear tires. It has Goodyear All Weather 8.3-24 R3 (turf tread) tires on a 7” rim now but one has a sidewall leak. I am the second owner and have had the tractor for 30 years so probably stock, as delivered. Anyway, I went down to the rural tire place and was told the Goodyears are no longer made and that they were not able to find any comparable tire in any of the 6 brands they handle. I spent hours on the web and cannot find anything, new or used with the R3 tread.

I was hoping someone has run into this and can give me an idea what my options are. Is my only choice to go to an R1 tread? Tires? Different rims? Since I use the LoBoy primarily for cutting grass, I would prefer the turf tread but have to have something.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, I see your zip code is near Rochester NY. Some options are:
Google search for the tire by size, check ebay, place a wanted add on the forum classified add page, check a tire repair shop-it may be able to be repaired with a boot and new tube, contact forum member tst in upstate NY-he might have one or two. An internet search shows several turf tread tires available and you could also change both of them to 9.5-24 size. JMHO Stan

Thanks for the responses! I was on the web searching for a few hours before I asked for help. I checked about 15 sites that still list that Firestone 8.3-24 R3 but always no availability. Also, I contacted two of the local tire stores, one a Firestore house, and no distributor shows any 8.3-24 R3 as being manufactured or available any longer. So, as far as I can see, there is no new 8.3-24 R3 tire out there. My tire store guys says odds are a tube won't work - the tire is about 55 years old and probably too damaged inside for a tube but he would look. But he did say he could fit a 9.5-24 R3 tire on the 7" rim but I would need to do both tires. And there is a 9.5-24 R3 Carlisle still available. So there is hope for some sort of solution. I think that I will stick with new - that used $281 tire in Minnesota cost $324 shipping and that would more than pay for 1 new Carlisle tire.

Anyway, I was starting to think I was doomed and your help has convinced me I will find some sort of solution. Thanks.

As I posted earllier, a wanted to buy add on the VINE, Classified forum will probably help. I've even got a couple of 8.3's but it's a long way from Lower Alabama to NY. There's Cub Express for shipping help and FASTENAL used to ship parts if they were on a pallet. JMHO Stan
 
More info: there is a cubfest (Oxford NY) in about 3 weeks where members gather. Someone might be coming and bring a tire (or two) where you could pick them up. You could attend, meet forum members and learn a lot about Cubs and LoBoys there (and other IH tractors too).
