Tractor still won't start, but as you recall, I had mentioned that when it IS running, it does not stop when I push in the ignition switch, and I have to choke it to death.

From the Cub side of the forum, there was the following a long while ago...

You don't have to have a warning light, but you must have a lamp or diode between the no 1 terminal and the ignition switch. If you leave out the diode or lamp, the tractor will continue to run arter you cut off the ignition switch.

Is that maybe my problem? I don't seem to have lamp, and I don't know what a diode looks like... :?
 
To check the ignition switch. Disconnect the wire feeding the coil. VOM set on DC voltage, hooked in series - one VOM lead to disconnected coil wire - second VOM lead to coil or ground.

Observe the VOM readings as you turn the ignition switch on and off. You should have full battery voltage with the ignition switch in the on position and ZERO voltage in the off position. If you have any voltage in the off position the tractor will continue to run.

My guess is that you are getting voltage past or through the switch when the switch is in the off position.

As far as the diode. I have two tractors converted to the 12 volt alternator. Neither one has the diode or idiot light.

The only time I am aware of them not stopping is when the light or diode was replaced with a wire. Not when the wire was ommited.
 
Does it matter which way you hook it up?

I kind of like the lamp because I can't hook it up wrong and it tells me when I've left the switch on :D Kind of an "idiot's idiot light."

The only let electric tru one way.
You have to test to find out which way.
 
My MOM"S :lol: B does that sometimes, it doesn't shut off when it's really really warm.... just use teh choke to shut it off :lol:

Will have to fix it this summer....

Picked up some of those diodes today at Radio Shack. I'll shrink-tube one into the wiring and let everyone know how it goes...
 
That sure did it :D

This baby fires up instantly and shuts right off - which is much safer in my book.

I wonder why the lamp didn't work, maybe I used too big a lamp? The one on the Cub is a very small bulb and this one is a big standard taillight assembly...

Not sure why a lamp would work at all, but my Cub has one so I figured I'd give it a try on the Super A.
