john deere 750 tractor

I have an 850 , there Japanese tractors made to JD specs by Yanmar I 've owned mine 15 years its a darn good tractor :D :D never had any bad issues , I was told when I got it to often clean the removable radiator screen because they plug often when brush hogging and then the engine over heats and it true the screen does plug up easy and there is no temp gauge so keep the screen in mind ..

Mine is 4X4 too I like that part its never been stuck :D
 
I have a 1982 750 2 wheel drive and am pretty satisfied with it. The brakes were hard to replace; at least that's what the JD mechanic told me and he replaced mine. I had a block heater added to aid in cold weather starting.

5k sounds like a good price.
 
I have a JD 850, mid 1980's model, I've been very satisfied with it. Bought used about 10 years ago, rebuilt engine and cuts grass with a 6 ft 3 pt hitch grooming mower--April-October 3 or 4 times per month. No problems since I have owned it. I have about 4 thousand invested not counting my time. Sounds like you would be OK with it if it will do what you want to do. I also have a complete set of parts and service manuals for this series.
 
I have a 750, 4x4 with power steering, JD 67 loader, and the JD 7 backhoe. For the size and the HP (about 20) it's a great little tractor. For brush hogging, snow removal, loader operations, back blading, and just hauling around a mower or wagon, I think its's great. For actual plowing, tillage, disking, etc....I think this tractor is just not meant for those things. For example, I wouldn't dream of taking my 750 over newly plowed ground with a disk....it's just to narrow and tippy.

500 hours is nice and low. If it comes with the 3 pt. hitch, ROPs, all lights work, I still think $5K is a little high. If it has a front PTO....maybe. I just saw one on Ebay like this with a beautiful front JD mount snowblower that topped out at $3,600. I paid $9,500 for my rig...but again...it had a loader, backhoe, and brand new rims and tires all around.

Pros:
- reliable
- compact
- easy to work on
- parts readily available...although original JD parts are pricey

Cons:
- narrow, and thus a little tippy. I would not recommend it for hilly property.

I think 4000 is good. They tend to over price these tractor, but for a good reason. The 650 750 850 950 1050 was the first ones built for john deere and they went over kill, which is good. The newer ones that was built following these are not the same quality. I have a 750 4x4 with loader, and a 950 with a cab on it. The only thing I have negative to say about one is the brake will lock up if you do not keep that vent hole clean.
 
We had a JD 955 at work and it had over 3000 hard hours on it. It was still running when it was sold, but needed some TLC. The X50 series was the tractor I was shopping for when the Case/IH 235 fell into my lap. The price on the 235 was to good not to give it a go. I still have my eye out for one of these X50 series tractors, for the right price. 5 grand is alittle high for my budget, but if I had that kind of money I would purchased the JD 750, becasue it is a very good little tractor and in my eyes you can not go wrong with the manual trans and easy to work on.
