JB weld.

Will JB weld adhere to bronze weld?. Grandpas 1941B that had a cracked block welded but it is beginning to seep antifreeze would like to seal before repeating! Don’t want to risk re-opening crack by adding bronze weld. Dusty B :tractor:

I have no personal experience, but would expect the JB to adhere. You might want to open the crack a little with a dremel or die grinder to make it easier to apply the JB.

An old farmers trick was to use Sodium Silicate with water in the cooling system to seal the leak. Also know as water glass and used as an egg preserver. No antifreeze until the leak is sealed with this treatment. The solution must be flushed from the cooling system before adding antifreeze.
I never used this, but as a young guy working in a drugstore we sold a lot of it.

Have the head re-brazed. Or at least talk to your local welding shop.

The job can be done with the results better than the previous weld.

Found my Cub had a JB welded head. After several years of use the head started seeping under the JB Weld.

Edit from an old post.

Mendtite worked for quite a while. Eventually had to have the radiator recored.
Stop leak product purchased from auto parts store. Worked for one mowing season on a 154.

J.B. will adhere to braze as well as it will to anything else. Just make sure it's clean and give it some texture or tooth to adhere to. Is it the best repair? Maybe not but I've done it before with good results.
