Well, was having a problem with my carb leaking, so I took it apart. Seems that the tab that limits float drop was broken off. Just so happens I had a parts tracor, so I went to it and pulled the float off of it...same thing. Ordered a new float and when it came I installed it and rebuilt the carb. With the leak fixed I went out to cut some grass. Got a few minutes into it when she sputtered and died. It would then start, but I couldn't advance throttle. Condenser was in bad shape, so I replaced with a new one. Still no change. I reset the breaker points and still wouldn't run. I then thought that perhaps I needed to reset fuel mix into carb since I rebuilt it. After tinkering with that, it was worse...couldn't even get it started. I figured it HAD to be a fuel problem, so I decided to check fuel flow out of the tank. Pulled the fuel line and there was nothing! I decided maybe the line was clogged with debris (happened on my cub). Checked the line and it was clear. Then I took the cap off of the tank and found the problem right away...NO GAS!!!!! Moral of this long, drawn out story...keep it simple when working on your tractors. I thought too much and it cost me about 2 hours of my day. At least I could laugh about it :D

I've probably told the story before. I overhauled my grandfathers 1936 WC Allis. Couple of gallons of fuel in the tank. Took the tractor for a short ride. Started to return the tractor to the shop. Died. Checked the fuel level in the tank. Had 2 inches of fuel. Changed out the magneto, double checked the valve timing, retimed the engine, checked fuel flow, changed out the carburator.

Finally dawned on me. I was going up an incline. What little fuel I had in the tank ran to the rear. I was running out of gas.

I have always made it a HABIT of suttin' off the fuel line to the carburetor when I park my tractors at shows :wink: Well, needless to say, there have been too many times when the Tractor Parade was starting out and I was right in the thick of it when...Low & Behold...I RAN OUT OF GAS, because I had FORGOTTEN to TURN THE FUEL SHUTOFF BACK ON :!: :!: :oops: Of course I know that you YOUNGER GUYS have NEVER had that HAPPEN TO YOU...RIGHT :?:
