International Harvester Lawn Sweeper

Hey guys I have a chance to buy one of the IH lawn sweepers. They said it's 46" wide with 36" brushes. It's fairly local to me and cheap enough to justify the drive. They said it works that they just don't use it anymore. Does anyone know how they compare to your typical box store brand or does anyone have one? 1000001499.png1000001500.png1000001497.png

Being a user of one of the modern big box store versions, I can see how those rear wheels would be very advantageous.
That's what I was thinking too. I've never had one and have been meaning to pick up one for a few years. This one came up at a really good deal so I figured it being IH brand it might look good with the Cub pulling it around. It looks to be in fairly good condition from what I can see in the pictures.

I can't compare it to a new one, but I've used one. I have 2, one at my place in Nebraska. Sometimes when I would visit, the grass would be pretty tall, leaving lots of clippings. I used it several times, pulling with either a Cub Cadet, or a quad. It worked great! My son lives there now and he keeps things regularly mowed, so it was just in his way and I sold it. Guy drove 70 miles to get it, he was an IH collector.IMG_20260428_140852.jpg

I have owned and used a similar Craftsman brand many years ago that looked much like this. It worked good with the downside sometimes it required manual dumping if it got a little too full. If you must dismount the tractor to dump it, that would get to be an unpleasant chore pretty quickly. Also think about how you intend to dispose of the collected clippings vs letting them remain on the lawn from the mowing.. On the positive note it's a collectable item that you don't find very often. Welp it followed me home. It's in nice condition, an old fella had it. It's definitely made a lot heavier than my dad's box store one. Especially down where the wheel and gear are, look like thick cast aluminum to me.

I was gunna use my Farmall Cub to pull this around the yard while the misses mows.
Hi,
If your lawn is soft, and the Cub has ag tires, the 3 rib front tires, and angled bar rear tires, you may find that it leaves prints in the soft lawn. If it does, it's better to keep the Cub off the lawn.
