Information on a tire valve (schrader)

Does someone happen to know what size and type threads are on the end of a tire air valve? I'm referring to the putting air into a tire valve. I would like to come up with something that would screw on the valve stem male threads and be able to convert it to either preferabily small pipe or bolt threads. Thanks. Stan
 
Get a core and try measuring it. Or get one of those little tools that includes a valve stem thread chaser and measure it. I believe it is a metric thread.
 
A google search comes up with 0.302 or 0.305 inches and 32 TPI. If I had to guess it'd be that the larger diameter is used on the female hose end.

By searching "schrader valve adapter" I was able to come up with a number of commercially available adapters.
 
The local hardware store has bolt thread gauges in the bolt bin area. Free for customer usage. Take in a couple Schrader valves.

Are we talking about the valve stem cap? Take tubeless tire valve stem to hardware store. Local tire shop will have them in their trash.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the gauges route, a 1/4 x 28 is a bit smaller but it's about as big as an 8mm but the threads on the 8mm 1.0 nut is too course. Still searching for something that will screw on the valve stem that can be adapted to either bolt or pipe threads or otherwise connected in some fashion.
 
Internet search. The more common External thread is 0.302 inches (7.7mm) by 32 threads per inch.

My local hardware store has 7.7 mm nuts and bolts in stock.

If that's the correct thread size and number you can purchase a 7.7mm tap.

Thanks for the info. The end result is intended to be a tool to screw on a tube valve stem (without the internal valve installed) and fitted with a quick connect fitting for air pressure to get a greater volume more quickly to aid in seating the tire bead to the rim.
 
Stan, when I google "tire bead seater", all of them have about a 5 gallon tank with a large pipe that is flattened on the end. A large ball valve releases the air. I'm doubtful that you can get enough air through a valve stem without the core to seat the bead.

Agree, Bob, unless he’s doing a smaller tire. Most likely he’s talking rear tractor tires and of course, the best solution is what you describe.
Stan, tire shops use an inflator with no guts that just clip onto valve stem. Then they open a valve(foot operated on tire machines). This does put out a bigger volume of air for setting the bead on car and truck tires. Of course, you may have more volume in mind
 
Thanks to all, for the suggestions. I'm familiar with the devices that you described but that's not what I have in mind. Something similar to what Thomas is described is what I'm looking to imitate. My air supply is about 100 psi but small storage tank so I need to utilize what I have as quickly as possible. It's not something I will use very often, might be one more of those things that I thought up that I want to see if it can be done. (I've been known to be a tinker of sorts). I'll be the first to admit that not all of my ideas are practical! :lol: Stan
 
Larger air compressor with big storage tank. We did and plumbed the shop with several outlets. Put one outlet reel in center of the shop and one outlet near each of the large doors. Works great when airing up machinery tires and pneumatic tools.

Or a larger storage tank using your current compressor.

Eugene, you're describing my dream shop but it's not in my budget. At age 80+ it's probably not going to happen unless I get reincarnated and reborn as a millionaire's heir. :lol: :lol:
 
What about the adapters they use to put fluid in tires, that has a larger supply. I've seen those offered some where on the internet.
 
Thanks for all the ideas, after considering various alternatives I've settled on two options:
1. Simple and available with the parts that I have on hand is a 1/4 FIP ell with 2 MIP x 1/4 quick connects and a short length of 1/4 rubber hose with a band clamp. Assembled, it looks like this: air tool 1.jpg
2. A bit more complicated but permanent is a barrel type valve tool with the inside pins removed (it has female threads on one side) and a FIP x 1/4 quick connect. I plan to connect the two together with a 1/8 x 1/4 brass fitting or JB Weld the valve tool into the quick connect, whichever works the best. Stan air tool 2.jpg
 
If you’re dealing with air pressure inconsistencies, it might be worth checking if any debris or corrosion is affecting the valve core. I’ve faced similar issues, and sometimes it’s just a worn-out seal causing the trouble.
