Ih sickle mower

I recently picked up a belly mount in mower for my A, and it was complete on another tractor, except the knife toolbar, although the seller had one that he said came off of it. The problem I have is that the clamshell on the pitman will not lock onto the ball of the knife bar. My question is, are there different clamshells? He gave me 2, both of which are the same. I used one, after replacing the knives, but had to use a hose clamp to hold it together, which obviously isnt the best idea. Any ideas or thoughts?
