IH disc blade help.

Hey all,
I'm getting ready to order some blades for my 120 disc. The axles measure about .020" over 1-1/8" So I'm calling them 1-1/8 axle size. Agri supply has notched disc blades that will work for me but there are 2 that have the star shaped hole in the center. One fits a 1" or 1-1/8" axle size and the other fits a 1-1/8" or 1-1/4" axle size. Can I use either of these 2 disc blades or is one better for my 1-1/8" axle size? I'm a newbie to all this so I'm leaning on you experts on here. 😀
Thank you!

Hey all....
I gave agri supply a call and they got me squared away with this. Parts are on their way. 😀

If the sizes match as you said and all else is equal, I would go with the smaller hole, 1 by 1-1/8. What did Agri-Supply say?
Jim, they suggested what you said plus they also had a thicker blade in that same size which is what I wound up ordering. They told me they get blades from 3 countries: Brazil, India and China. Brazil has the highest carbon content with China having the least about of carbon making them the softest. The ones I ordered are from India only because they did not offer what I needed from a source in Brazil.

Well.... this got interesting. I talked with agri supply and the disc blades I ordered will not work on an IH. Thanks Al for suggesting this detail. However, the only place I find 16" notched disc blades with a 1-1/8" square hole and a flat center are at my local CaseIH dealer. They are pricey, for sure. It looks like the 120 disc I have came standard with 20" blades and someone changed them out to 16" along the way. Do any of you a solid recommendation on where I can get 8 new blades for under $50 each? This disc will probably only be used on 2 acres or less per year.

Thanks again for all of the help.

Shoup would be the first place I would check.

IF it sposed to have 20" blades on it from factory ya better be puttin 20's back on it! Smaller blades have the wrong geometry and wont dig PLUS they will let the axles and bearings run in the dirt all the time.
I went thru this on a 21' 470 disk one time that somebody put the wrong blades on so I know what I am talking about!
Expensive fix!!!!!

Thanks for this info SONNY.

My local CaseIH dealer told me only smooth 16" blades are available and that the notched ones were discontinued. I also found in my manual that this disc came with 16", 18" or 20" blades. For now I am just going to put the rear gangs back together and leave it alone. It will be a good winter project to disassembled everything, get it sand blasted, paint it, put on an entire new set of 18" or 20" blades and take care of it. I'm not ready for another project right now. 😆

I wouldn't be surprised if the smaller blades were used on the one point disks. My 120 has a reasonable amount of wear on them but if I had to guess they were no bigger than 18" new.

(Regardless of the diameter, if you aren't running it down to--not over--the axle, you're not disking)

The 120 is a darn good disk. My dad bought a new 6', three point hitch version with his new 424 in 1967. Much better than a King disk that was super-popular around here then, because it was cheaper than an IH.

I was thinking the 18" would be a good choice when I go to rebuild this thing. Good to hear your experience with the 120 disc. Definitely well built!
