HYTRAN

Ok here goes. The cub manual calls for hytran in the hydraulic sytem. It has a mil spec number of 1209. I find fluids at various stores that are called universal tactor fluid and have a mil spec number of 1209. Unfortunately I only find It in 5 gal containers when I only need pints. However, I find plenty of tractor fluid with the mil spec number 1207 that comes in sizes as small as quarts. My question is this.... Can I use mil spec 1207 fluid in my hydraulic system or will it damage my seals.

I use Hi-tran but I think any will work but I use it because it works best.
I often wonder why try to find a replacement when it is ready availabe.

Isnt to readily availible out here. Dont know why but I just may have to travel a bit or by the 5gal bucket. Maybe Im just not looking in the right place. Your absolutly right though David, shouldnt try to use something different if the correct one is avaliable. I'm going to spend a little more time looking for it here. Worse case I'll just spend the $48.95 for the 5 gallon container of the correct fluid.

From what I have seen, MS-1207 is the spec for HyTran Plus and MS-1209 is the spec for HyTran ULTRA. Either one is OK for the Cub hydraulic system. Many of the higher quality hydraulic oils meet both specs. Frequently the labeling on the containers specifically say that it is compatible with Hy-Tran.

Cheaper hydraulic oil comes in containers that typically are just labeled something like "hydraulic oil". You do NOT want to use this stuff in a Touch-Control system.

Most outlets like Tractor Supply, Wal-Mart etc. will have two kinds of hydraulic oil for sale, one in each of the above categories.

Jim, I was hoping you would see this topic. Thank you very much for your input. That was the info that I needed. Wal mart has it and it is readily avalible. Thanks again, Ron
