Hydraulic pump issues

I'm having problems with my hydraulic pump leaking oil into the crank case and not working. This has happened twice. The first time I removed the pump from the tractor and replaced it with a spare one. I included new "O" rings, gaskets and seals and new oil. The pump worked fine until recently and I have no hydraulics again, probably have more oil in the crankcase but I have Fasthitch and the lift rod was in the way of removing the dip stick.
Is this a PUMP issue; or a TOUCH CONTROL problem. Apparently my 57 CUB doesn't want anything to do with gardening this year ! LOL ! :lost: :help: :tractor:

If it's leaking into the oil pan, it's a pump issue. Several have enlarged the o-ring opening to accommodate a lip seal. If the shaft is worn where the o-ring ride, the lip seal conversion is probably necessary.

I switched from a standard o-ring to the "x" cross section quad rings on my hydraulic pump when I went through it last fall. My pump shaft had a definite groove wore in it so the regular o-ring was obviously not going to seal it. The x quad rings have two inner lips that seal against both sides of the grooved area. I've been running it since early December and no issues to report yet. I used a buna N 112 x-ring that I ordered from one of the o-ring supply websites.

When installing, you want to lube the heck out of it and be careful to not let it twist up on the shaft. I had a problem with a sharp edged step up and ended up lightly beveling the edge down with a fine stone in a dremel. Just enough to make the ring easier to slide on without twisting and not have that edge so sharp.

Hope this helps
