Husky Tool Box

I've got an older similar model. On mine the drawers are full width and the material is "stainless" steel.

The only thing that I really wish was different is the drawer handles have little plastic caps on the ends that are easy to knock off. Since the handle corners are sharp I always end up crawling around on the floor to find them.

It's been a decent box that I used in my motorcycle repair business. The material isn't as thick as some other boxes but it works well for me because I really don't have many large, heavy tools.
 
I've worked with guys that had Husky boxes and they seem to be a pretty good box. Surprisingly, the Harbor Freight boxes are very good as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Husky at all.
 
I think most brands are pretty good, now day, make sure to pick one with ball bearing slides, they’re the only way to go. However, I think you need to consider going bigger than that one. I got my 72” box from Rural King and wish I had room for a another one. When you start organizing the tools from your various tool boxes, you’ll see where I’m coming from. It’s just like building a new barn, it’s never big enough. One of my peeves is that most tool boxes cheap out by installing too many deep drawers. In most cases, two shallow ones would be far more useful.
 
Compare the Series 2 units from Harbor Freight. I have had one of the 44” models for 4 years now and wish I had another.

Make sure you compare total cubic inches of storage space, ball bearing glides, full extension of drawers, and all welded construction. One of the pluses to the HF unit over Husky that I see is the Husky model is too tall (for me). I don’t want tools at nose level. Besides, the HF model has a nice big top that can be used as a work surface or something else, like battery power station for your cordless tools.

Of course, then there’s price and HF offers it in RED! :wink:
 
I purchased a used Kennedy tool chest set at auction for a bit over $200-. At that time the set, new, retailed for over $800-.

Suggest local auctions. Locally, tomorrow, there is an ag consignment auction. There will be all kind of tools, equipment, and machines for sale.

The problem with an auction is I might have to wait for more than a year until one shows up. I also have six chest/cabinet sets that I want to eliminate in the future and combine everything in just three boxes.
 
I was at Home Depot this morning and checked out the box. This version has rubber liners in the bottoms of the drawers and much nicer drawer slides than my box.
 
I checked out all the options that were posted here as well as a few others. The 41" Husky turned out to be best for myshop lay out. Since my shop is pretty much laid out to suit my needs I wanted something that would be a close match for fitting in where my 26" Craftsman sits now. The extra 15" width was perfect. The Husky is almost double in size cubic inch wise than the Craftsman although Square inches is a better measurement unless you like throwing tools in a big pile in a drawer.

Over all it was a pretty good deal price wise as well.

Brought the price to $604.43

Kroger was offering 4 times the points on gift cards today so I bought $600.00 worth of Home Depot cards which gave me 2400 points towards gas purchases. That will equal a total savings of $84.00 when I buy gas the next few refills.

All this means the $648.00 tool box cost me $520.43 for a total savings of$127.57. I think I did okay.

These labels are great! The printer can run on batteries or AC, so you can take it anywhere, and the labels will stay on "forever", but if you make a mistake, they are easy enough to peel off.

...except that all four (4) should be swivel casters! That way the box can be moved into its' spot without moving the adjacent "stuff".

Yes, Dale, I have the P-touch as well. I needed some label not included in the label set, made those with the P-touch. It’s just easier with an inexpensive set of labels. Yes, bill just select the larger font size and they are quite easy to read. Just be sure to choose an easy to read font.
