How To Safely Remove The Serial Number Plate

I had just started this job and decided to get my camera since we've discussed it before. The thin putty knife closest to the tag has a narrow notch cut in it with a cutoff wheel. Then additional putty knives can be driven between it and the casting to walk the rivets out unharmed and ready to be re-used.

This tag has already had the original black paint removed so I'll just remove the sloppy red and polish the whole thing. I really prefer to keep original tags regardless of appearance.

If the rivets are brass, you can also carefully drill off the heads, remove the plate and then drill out the shanks of the rivets.
