Most of Mo. has been in a moderate drought, with part of it being in a severe drought wich includes my area. The farmers around here have no grass, and I am worried if it will come back out in the spring. I have some bare spots in my yard, which is a field I just started mowing when I built my house. I got some grass coming up in them in the early fall by watering it pretty heavy, but the fall rains never came and it died out. I did not want to keep on watering it, it takes about 3 days of continuous running for a traveling sprinkler to cover it all, and by then you need to start over, and I did not want to keep pushing my well that hard. They were calling for freezing rain and snow in this area tonight and tomorrow, so I put my modified seeder on my ZTR and spread what seed I had left on my bare spots again.

This rig looks a little strange, but works good.

I've got the same thing planned in the next few days, John. Get the starter fertilizer down and some grass seed on those bare and thin spots around the barn.

We didn't get much here, a few miles east of you. A dusting is about all we got. Not even enough for an excuse to work from home.

The forecast for the KC metro area was flurries on Sunday, then a chance for a measurable snow on Tuesday. Opposite happened. It snowed pretty good on Sunday--about 1.5" to 2", then on Tuesday, the snow went north and south of us.
 
shane , that looks like you put our forcast up by mistake . John , i'm afraid we must be getting y'alls share of the rain down here . And , this time of year it moves west to east . Shane , here comes some more . Rain forcast here all day today , friday , saturday , and sunday..................................rained about 4 of the 7 days last week . Mardi Gras has been a struggle for the tourist.
 
Reminds me of a story I heard a few years ago. A man called the local TV station and told them, " I just wanted to tell you I just finished shoveling 7 inches of partly cloudy out of my driveway."

This is a bit of home brew. The spreader is designed to mount to the luggage rack on the rear of a 4 wheeler. My ZTR had 4 bolts on the front of it that I replaced with slightly longer ones, then used some light angle iron to make a framework that could be attached to them and had 2 arms that the original clamps for the ATV luggage rack to attach to. I used a 2 wire quick plug available at any auto parts store for power. The unit is held in place with 4 wing nuts and takes less than 5 minutes to install or remove.
 
Waiting for the soil to be above 32 degrees to a depth of 4 inches. I need to water the apple trees in my side yard.

Have had a couple of light snows so far this winter. Most of the snow evaporate off and what little melted, ran off the frozen ground to streams.

Edit: Need to burn off my asparagus patches. All winter long, to dry and windy to burn.
 
Snows missed us agaIn, first one went several miles north and second one a few miles south. Looks like we have another chance this week end though. Bad part it is supposed to have ice with it. Guess I better give the generators a little run time before it gets here.

That spreader has gotten a lot of use, both at my place and at neighbors. I have planted several food plots with it. Unfortuantely the weather has not been very cooperative.

After I moved to another part of the state I had a young cousin named Bryan that used to come down and help Dad out sometimes. Bryan said he really liked working with Uncle Edgar (my Dad). Bryan said his Dad would have a job to do and would tie into it like he was killing snakes, and in 3 hours would have it done. He said my Dad would have the same job to do, and walk out and look it over then come back to the yard and stretch out under the maple tree for a few minutes while he thought about it, then go do the same job in 20 minutes. Dad taught me well. The guys at work used to say that if you wanted to know the easy way to get something done to have me do it. They thought I was pretty smart, but truthfully, I was lazy. :lol:
 
Ice, ice, more ice. Been secluded in the house since Saturday afternoon. Saturday it was foggy with temperatures below freezing with a bit of snow.

Saturday afternoon watched as two vehicles tried to climb the inclined street to the west of the house. First vehicle would spin the wheels, back up, drive ahead 6 or so inches, spin again. Took that person about 20 minutes to drive out to the highway. 2nd neighbor made it almost to the stop sign, then backed up and returned home.

Today, Sunday, went out to clean ice and snow off the side walk and car. 2/10" ice, hard as a rock. Salted down the side walk. Took several hours to clear off the side walk.

Ice should melt off tomorrow, Monday afternoon.

This minimal amount of moisture will not help with the moderate drought situation.
 
Eugene, we got a little ice and a slight dusting of snow here. Ice Saturday night, and a hint of a dusting of snow Sunday morning. Made the parking lot at our church a skating rink, so we had to call off church services. As you said, this little bit of stuff ain't helping the dry conditions we been having.
 
Sleet and freezing rain started on Saturday evening thru part of the night. Lights blinked once as we were getting ready to retire for the day, but never lost power. Sunday, everything had a nice coating of ice on it, but not very thick. No one lost power from what I could tell. By the mid-morning, sun was out and everything began to melt. Sunday afternoon wasn't too cold, low-mid 30's, and no wind.

Looking forward to warmer days (and nights).
 
From Saturday afternoon until Monday just prior to 10 AM, iced up. Grass was still above the ice and snow but everything above the ground was ice.

Once sun came out started scraping off the windows of wife's vehicle. Got the windows cleared and went grocery shopping. Main roads were clear, black top side streets, starting to melt off.

95 Dodge pickup with doors lapping over the roof, still haven't tried to open the doors.
 
It's currently the driest winter in 40 years in Missouri. Currently in a moderate drought area.

Visited the acreage last two days. Checked the water flow on the spring fed streams bordering the north and east side of the acreage. North side stream flow was almost non- existent. East side stream flow was very low.

Have a spring inside the acreage fence that fills/feeds a pond. The pond's water level was the lowest I've seen. There was some water in the pool where the spring exits the bluff.

Currently hoping I have enough water for the pecan and English walnut seedling to be planted this spring. Next issue is if the drought persists, will there be enough water for the 60 or so head of cattle grazing the acreage.

Last drought the local ponds went dry. Only water available for cattle was the spring and pond inside the acreage fence.
