Hornet nest

Its been under 32 degrees here in Ohio. It’s going to be 40 plus next few days so you think it’s safe to take down this hornet nest?

Should be safe to remove. The workers die off in winter. I’d be surprised if the nest isn’t empty. Surely it’s been cold long enough there for them to be gone. But take video to share, just in case

Should be good but I would scrap it into a garbage bag just in case. I took one down a few years ago to save, luckily I put it into a bag and sealed it. After it sat in my warm garage for a while some came out to see what was going on. They are kind of cool to look at up closely after you put a clear coat on it to help preserve it.

My brother-in-law brought one into his shop after it had sat in freezing temps for a couple of months. One day after work he fired up his wood stove to heat the shop so he could do some work after dinner. When he went out an hour later, he started to work on a project. Something started buzzing around him and he realized the hornets had started to leave the nest. he immediately shut down the stove and went in the house. After a couple of more freezing days, he went back out and shot ether in the nest, when it was a little warmer, he coated it with shellac. It turned out pretty nice.

I had one and the birds got into it and ate the hornets and larvae...I then knock it down...It was bare of anything....
